We're officially getting a grip, and drinking in God's blessings.
Yesterday was our second day of reading sessions. Parker, Jess, and I all took a few new readers, and as of now have a packed schedule for the coming week!
It's funny getting to know the people here sometimes, only because they constantly apologize for not knowing a word, or completely understate their own ability to speak English. Most of the time they actually speak very well and are able to articulate their thoughts exceptionally well. The three of us spend quite a bit of time in a day encouraging them and letting them know that while they may admire our English, we've been working on only one language (okay, save for maybe a few high school classes on a foreign language) for our entire lives; most of them know 3, 4, or even 5 different languages. How incredible is that?!
Man, between packing, saying goodbye to family and friends at home, a long day (or two) of travel, moving in together in a new apartment in a foreign country, meeting 30+ new people, and trying to make our way through grocery shopping with no way to read a label, last week was incredibly taxing. By last night, we were all ready for the weekend. Parker, after having readers nearly all day, went to bed by 8. Jessica, with the help of one of her readers who lives upstairs, ordered some dinner for us to be delivered. We had ravioli, pizza, and chicken & french fries. The latter could've well been from a diner in the US, but the ravioli and pizza had a slightly different spin on the sauces and cheeses. Jess loved it though, so that worked out. Just for kicks, she and I stayed up a while longer and decided to watch Jurassic Park yet again (after all, the first time we were unpacking and not paying much attention...right?)...I had some ice cream and then fell asleep half way through the movie. Yes, we were tired.
Despite our best efforts to sleep in this morning, we were all up and moving by 8am. Believe it. We spent a few hours moseying around, taking long showers and watching some Boy Meets World while updating our LST log sheets and writing some thank you notes. We spent the afternoon exploring the city around us. We even got to spend some time in a small museum near the park!--and yes, we took many pictures; I'll post a few here, but they're all in the slideshow. :) We even got to spend some time in a small museum near the park!
Tonight we're doing something especially fun and special...but I'll save that as a surprise for you for when I can actually tell you what it was like! Tomorrow we get to go to the church here for the first time! We're still loving it here, still meeting new friends, still having many misadventures worth laughing over, and still thanking the Lord for this trip and for all of those who helped send us here. God's word is being shared, as is His love. As I've said before, our brothers and sisters here are eager to learn not only English, but also about this man named Jesus. yesterday one of my reading sessions with a lady named Aurora included a 10 minute conversation spurred by her asking me if I think the bible is the most important book in my life, and then asking me how I like to study my bible--do I study with others? In school? By myself? Do I pick one verse? A passage? and so on. What a special session that was!
Seeds are being planted, love is being shared.
God Bless!
